Review: Mumbai Magic

On a perfect Sunday afternoon with clear sunny skies, we headed to Little India and stumbled upon Mumbai Magic. Along a string of Indian Restaurants, you will find this place nearer to the Little India MRT exit of Buffalo Road. (42 Race Course Rd, 218557)

Having skipped breakfast we had worked up our appetite and wanted to have a quick and hearty meal. We ordered the special unlimited Thali which looked appetizing.

In about 5 minutes we were served the starters, veg samosa and chaas (Buttermilk). We dug right in and were not disappointed. The chutney complimented the samosa well & the buttermilk was awesome!
Another 5 mins and our food was served. There were 10+ different dishes served in the thali. 4 Vegetables, 6 curries, 1 dessert, Chapati, Thepla, Rice…..

Taking the challenge to finish everything and eat more (remember this is unlimited thali), we started off our gluttony. Most of the dishes hit the spot and reminded us of home cooked feel & taste. At the end of it, we only managed to finish about 80% of the thali and we were stuffed.

Owner
After our meal we had a quick chat with the Owner. Their family is from Gujarat, India and they migrated out of India some 30+ years ago. Having run string of restaurants in Singapore, Pattaya, Mr. Desai has started this place in Little India one year back. The response has been good and the place is sold out during the festive seasons. So better book in advance if you are planning to eat during festive seasons.

We slowly walked to the taxi stand and just dozed off on the way back home.
The food was great value for money considering it was $12 per person (inc taxes). Very few places in Singapore serve such a variety at this price and a complete meal full of starters, mains, sides, and dessert. Next time we will try this place for their chaat (Mumbai Street Food)  items.

Final Verdict:

Taste of Food: 4/5

Service: 4/5

Ambiance: 3/5

Value: 5/5

Spent: About $25 for 2 people
